Ear Beef

The wax oozed out instantly, a big blob

splat on the floor

she swiftly scooped it up, before anyone saw

warm and gooey, melting in her hand

she was astonished but she didn’t make a sound

her ear however, breathed a sigh of utter relief

her head felt lighter, minus the chunk of beef

frightened of ridicule

her eyes quickly darted around

she had to get rid before it was found

For Chris

What did you want me to say? To slate their small minds, their ego-driven ways?

Their antics don’t deserve any time, mine or yours

attaching them to thoughts lacks self-care, heightens remorse

Remember who you are, the good, the bad and the ugly.

There is no need for false praise if you know that your soul is worthy.

Memory loss

The power before the phone,

the ring before the tone,

the magic we shall atone,

our place within the throne.

These are the beat of the drums,

the swaying of our thumbs,

the lining of our tums,

filled with our ladies hums.

The Red Filing Cabinet

Typing with your eyes closed

being able to put a sentence together

let your basic vocabulary flow

wishing to form words like

a genius mind or

a well-read poet

Mine is the red filing cabinet

full of the basics

very small

sometimes the drawers do not open

it’s at these times I stay quiet

There are just 2 drawers

it would be a blessing to have more

A near new red filing cabinet

failing its entire purpose

it’s already rusting

gaining plenty of dust

Incy wincy spider didn’t want to shout,

He wanted them to believe him, but did they, without any doubt?

“That Sir I cannot answer, we cannot access their inner core…as soon as we try and grab them, they’re off, out of the back door”

“How would you like us help you?” They ask

“I don’t know, maybe make them transparent? Then place me on the calmest river, taken slowly by the current.”

Rolling on the waves of ink
expands your mind, replaces pointless think
Let the energy go, flow from head to hand
takes you out of yourself, to far off lands

Don’t ask yourself too many questions,
the ink is all that you need
Don’t be caught up with worries,
driven by society, superficial greed

You have everything that you require
to live your life to the full
Don’t think that you need more,
your energy, don’t ever cull

Get out while you can,
explore the dark, the light, the waterside
Take photos as you do, remember,
you’re the creator, the owner of the magnificent ride

Lost Self, Found Self

Lost Self by KNG
Self Portrait

I always thought I was my self
Seems I was not
Nothing but a product of conformity
a people pleaser,
attention needer
wannabee over achiever

Never allowing my real hair to grow
Nor my natural pale skin to fully show
Trying to look right,
to be good,
to fit in
Craving excitement,
for new things to begin

Using words I didn’t fully understand
Pretending my life was so,
so grand
Chasing perfection,
wanting more,
to be admired,
to be accepted
to be adored

Gave out false admiration,
requited unwanted attention
in the name of affection,
fearful of neglection

Laughed and smiled
when I didn’t really want to
frowned and challenged
when I thought I was supposed to

Made up dreams of ideals
desperate to pursue
Out with the old,
in with the new

Slowly the light came on inside
from myself I could no longer hide
Laziness, naivety, the flaws undisguised
My raw self
unravelling before my eyes
soon came the courage to accept who I am,
without the tries, the bleach,
the smile and the tan.

My lack of knowledge confirmed each day
the pretence of my past slipping further away
My lazy, hazy, dreaming ways accepted,
My true self’s feelings
listened to,
not rejected.

Rewrite Love

Rolling over red roses
Vicariously grappling violets
Sensually smothering sugar
Youthfully describing you.

Piles and heaps, visible all around

items strewn waiting to be found

the distant mountains to scale are overbearing

the thoughts they ensue, guilt ridden but uncaring

soon the Stig will rise from the dump

scaling the mountain with great triumph

until then, the wisest action? embrace the darkness

yet again ride right through it, without a harness

Yesterday you had your family, your friends, your life

Today a masked enemy took them savagely with a knife

You decide to run as you know that you cannot hide

It’s either that or feel yourself painfully die

You run over land, undersea, depleting all of your strength

Eating rotten food, no water, ignoring the stench

Tomorrow you arrive at your destination, craving a warm embrace

Instead, you are cuffed, now a prisoner without a story nor a face
